Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, and professionally referred to by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female signing for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. The first single, Pho which was released on 21 October 2016 was released on Dreamville Records. The singer began to earn recognition. Her debut studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7 2019. Ari Lennox began posting her music to the internet in 2012 when she dropped her first mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The year 2014 saw Ari Lennox continued to post her music on the internet, including her independent single Bound. She appeared in Omen's Elephant Eyes and on Sweat It Out July 21st, 2015. The following year, her music began to circulate all over the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to work with him on some potential references to Rihanna. On the 8th of December, it was announced that she was contracted to Dreamville Records. In the album Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the track Backseat alongside Cozz. In October of 2016 she dropped her debut EP Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as being an opener on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017, in which she joined by EarthGang. In 2018, she performed as a guest performer on two tracks, including EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song as well as Bas's Icarus. The 16th of July, 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream from her debut album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video that was released on September 5. The second single she released was Grampa on November 9. Two additional singles were also released by her on November 13 with the titles Pedigree and One. Shea Butter Baby is a song that she performed together with Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on 16 November. The track was released as a stand-alone single in February of 2019 to coincide with her debut album. The song, launched with a music video on YouTube February 20, 2019 has been watched over 3 million times within the first 7 days. In December 2018 she was a supporting act on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour together with 6LACK.
